Núcleo de Agroecologia e Campesinato - NAC

The Núcleo de Agroecologia e Campesinato (NAC) was formally established in 2010 at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) to promote agroecology within the university through professional training, research, and rural extension activities with indigenous, quilombola, fishing, and peasant communities. Its creation responded to demands from Pernambuco's organized civil society for UFRPE to engage in teaching, research, and outreach focused on agroecology and peasantry. Guided by an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional approach, the NAC works on themes such as peasantry, agroecological transition, rural extension, education (agroecological, rural, and indigenous), agroecological knowledge production, food security and sovereignty, solidarity economy, medicinal plants, and rural youth. Coordinating collective projects supported by public funding, the NAC integrates and leads various teaching, research, and extension initiatives developed by its participating faculty members.
