Projeto de Extensão em Agroecologia Capim Limão UFRJ

Description sommaire

The Capim Limão Project was founded in 2006 as an initiative by undergraduate students from the Institute of Biology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Its mission is to study, practice, and teach themes related to Agroecology, including biodiversity, environmental health, sustainability, urban family farming, and food sovereignty. The project seeks to foster meaningful dialogues that connect traditional knowledge, cultural practices, societal needs, and academic research, creating a space for interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange.

To honor and uplift the knowledge and way of life of rural and campesino communities, the project adopts strategies centered on collaborative engagement. These include activities that promote exchanges between family farmers, the university, and society at large, as well as initiatives that strengthen the connection between producers and consumers. By encouraging critical reflection on the origins and production processes of food, the project empowers consumers to make more conscious choices. Environmental education is another cornerstone of the initiative, with workshops and debates designed to inspire and educate using accessible, engaging, and impactful teaching methods, reaching both students and the broader community inside and beyond classroom walls.
