Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment & Management (CECIC) is a Ugandan non-governmental organization working at the forefront of climate justice, renewable energy access, environmental conservation, and citizen-driven governance. Positioned as a community-centered policy and advocacy think tank, CECIC strengthens public participation in environmental decision-making while promoting a just transition from fossil fuel dependence toward clean, decentralized renewable energy systems. The organization works closely with communities particularly in western Uganda and the Rwenzori region to ensure that climate and energy solutions are inclusive, equitable, and locally grounded.
CECIC’s work spans policy research, advocacy, and grassroots mobilization. It trains women in solar installation and renewable energy access, promotes agroecology and food forests, engages youth in environmental governance processes such as the Minamata Convention, and produces policy briefs shared with the Parliament of Uganda. The organization also champions transparency in extractive sector governance, particularly around mining issues in districts like Kasese, while linking community realities to national and international platforms including global climate negotiations.
