Environmental Awareness and tree Planting

Uganda Environmental Conservationists Organization (UECO) is based in Nyenga Division, Buikwe District, Uganda. Additionally, UECO is a youth-led, not-for-profit organization committed to environmental conservation and community empowerment through different projects. We partner with schools and local communities to implement tree planting, environmental education, and awareness programs that promote food security, health, and ecosystem restoration.

In 2024, we reached 5,263 young people, worked with 23 schools, and planted 2,157 trees, including fruit-bearing, Timber and medicinal species. Our initiatives have strengthened environmental awareness and practical conservation skills among students and communities in Buikwe District and beyond.

Our vision:

Plant 35,000 trees in 100 primary schools by 2030

Support farmers with seedlings of coffee, cocoa, moringa, fruit, and medicinal trees

Plant over one million trees with farmers between 2025 and 2030, leveraging nature-based solutions to reduce poverty and enhance local ecosystems

Funding priorities:

Purchase of tree seedlings and planting materials

Documentation tools, including cameras

UECO seeks partnerships with individuals, organizations, and corporates who share our mission of protecting Uganda’s environment. By supporting our work, partners contribute directly to greener communities, empowered youth, and sustainable livelihoods.

Our dream is to see our community transformed into a green, self-sustaining environment where people live in harmony with nature. We envision a future where farms are not only sources of food and income but also centers of environmental restoration, filled with diverse trees, improved soils, reliable rainfall, and increased biodiversity.

Through tree planting and environmental education, we want our area to become a model for climate-smart agriculture and conservation-based livelihoods. Farmers will grow fruit, medicinal, and income-generating trees alongside their crops, improving household nutrition, creating new sources of income, and restoring degraded land.

We also dream of a generation of young people who understand the value of protecting the environment and take leadership in conservation. Schools will serve as learning hubs where students practice tree growing, climate action, and sustainable land management from an early age.

In the long term, we hope our work will help create a landscape with more tree cover, healthier ecosystems, reduced poverty, and stronger community resilience to climate change. Our location can become an example of how local action, when supported, can contribute to national and global environmental goals.
