ECOTERRA - Association for Environmental Preservation and the Valuation of Life
Founded in 1995 in Tocantins, ECOTERRA is a non-governmental, non-profit civil society organization dedicated to socio-environmental advocacy. Its mission focuses on defending Indigenous rights, particularly for the Karajá, Javaé, and Avacanoeiro peoples, and protecting ecologically significant areas like Ilha do Bananal, the world’s largest fluvial island. Rooted in sustainability, the organization integrates ancestral knowledge with academic insights to promote ecological balance and social justice through initiatives in education, health, culture, and environmental conservation.

ECOTERRA prioritizes agroecological and permaculture principles to foster harmony between humanity and nature. Its projects include reforestation, soil fertility enhancement, and the preservation of traditional communities and ecosystems. By advocating for sustainable land use practices such as agroforestry and polyculture, the organization promotes environmentally sustainable and socially just development, emphasizing both rural and urban ecological quality of life.

Guided by values of equity, freedom, and solidarity, ECOTERRA collaborates with communities, institutions, and social movements to advance education, environmental stewardship, and cultural enrichment. Its vision is to expand agroecological practices and inspire collective action toward a just and ecologically balanced world. The organization’s holistic approach seeks to build resilience and well-being for all beings by aligning socio-environmental actions with the principles of justice and sustainability.
